Faith to Innovate Pt. 1
Isaiah 43:18-19 (KJV)
18 Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past.
19 See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it?
I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland.
Earlier in the chapter, verse 4, The Savior of Israel
Isaiah 43:4
4 Others were given in exchange for you. I traded their lives for yours
because you are precious to me. You are honored, and I love you.
The Lord’s Promise of Victory (NIV)
18 But forget all that—it is nothing compared to what I am going to do.
19 For I am about to do something new. See, I have already begun! Do you not see it?
I will make a pathway through the wilderness. I will create rivers in the dry wasteland.
The prophet Isaiah is writing to God’s people during their captivity in Babylon. It's a time
of despair, they've been defeated and are now captured. Their achievements and outward connection to God were removed. The temple Solomon built for God, their city walls,
and daily life had been destroyed. In the midst of chaos, despair, abandonment, and destruction God is telling His people he’s about to blow their minds.
While we're not in physical captivity many of us as leaders are carried away by captive and self-sabotaging thoughts. This type of thinking is an enemy to our faith and prevents us from activity walking in it, faith only works if we work.
Isaiah is writing to them while they’re in captivity and God is talking about doing something new! In Isaiah 43 God reminds the children of Israel of His love for them, and how he’s rescued and ransomed them by giving others in exchange for their lives. In verses, 1-17 God reads His resume reminding them of His faithfulness before
promising them victory over their enemies and His promise to do something new.
Take Action:
Do you have the faith to innovate?
Are you ready to do something new in your life, business, or ministry but it seems like you’re stuck? Do your faith and innovation intersect? Think about what is in your hand, as God instructed Moses to stretch out his rod. What can you expand on in your business? What areas can you grow? What need can you meet with your talent, skill, and ability? If you’re lost or dropped your ax it's time to pick it back up.
Where does innovation start? It starts with identifying a problem, then stepping out on faith and operating with a purpose to solve and brief relief to that problem.
Definition of innovation from Webster’s dictionary
A new idea, method, or device; the introduction of something new. (For example, the smartphone is an innovation from the mobile phone. The mobile phone is an innovation of the telephone/traditional landline. The GPS is an innovation in how we use maps to navigate and locate people and things).
Definition of faith by The Free Dictionary
A strong or unshakeable belief in something, esp without proof or evidence
3 Questions to ask yourself to jump-start your faith and innovation journey:
- What new thing does God want me to do in my life, business, business?
- How does this meet a need and impact the people it’s intended for?
- What scripture(s) will you stand on in this process? When in doubt put the infallible Word of God between you and every obstacle, doubter. He’s never lost a battle. Ephesians 6:16 tells us above all we ought to take up the shield of faith so we can put out the fires of the wicked one (paraphrasing).
